Producer Groups

West Hume Landcare has Sheep and Mixed Farming Producer Groups operating in our region. These groups support the adoption of new technologies, tools & best management practices to reduce pressures on our natural resources.

“Through the Mixed Farming group I’ve learnt a lot and implemented many changes to our farming program.”

Our groups have been facilitated by Chris Mirams, Kristy Howard and more recently, local landholder Ashley Paech. They provide our landholders with an opportunity to learn the latest information from experts and from each other and offers support in making practice changes.

Recent workshops have included:

  • Boom or Bust - making the most from sheep

  • Successful silage storage

  • Protecting paddock trees and growing new ones

  • Merino flock DNA - testing the DNA of your flock and how to use the information to inform breeding program (series)

  • Planning Ahead Workshop – information session with experts in beef, sheep, cropping and fertiliser management

  • Managing the spring flush and taking the stress out of calving

West Hume Landcare proudly supports the Southern Riverina Sheep Breeders and has a representative of the group on our committee.

Our Mixed Farming Producer Group is supported by a National Landcare Program, Smart Farms Small Grants – an Australian Government initiative.
