An exciting opportunity to be part of a proactive community Landcare organisation in southern NSW and deliver an on-farm project as a Salinity Project Officer.
The initial project role will:
Showcase the latest practices in managing salinity sites on farms.
Work with local Landholders to measure, understand and address soil and water salinity levels/impacts on their properties.
Organise workshops, one-on-one training sessions and set up demonstration sites.
Locate existing piezometer network and re-engage the community to monitor regularly.
Produce a salinity booklet to capture the learnings from this project and as a reference for managing salinity in the West Hume Landcare area.

About West Hume Landcare Inc
West Hume Landcare was established in 1989 as a response to community concerns around land degradation and a desire to work together. It is one of the first community run Landcare group in New South Wales. Over 30 years, West Hume Landcare have gained millions of dollars in funding to support projects in our local area focused on addressing salinity, erosion, habitat loss, pest and weed issues and supporting threatened species. Our activities are focused around Burrumbuttock, Balldale, Brocklesby, Howlong, Jindera, Walbundrie and Walla Walla in the Murray region. Our closest regional centre is Albury.
About the role
Employment status - Minimum of 0.5 FTE. Part-time/casual/contractor - to be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Reporting to - West Hume Landcare committee and work closely with other staff.
Tenure - Initially project funded and completed by October 2023, further opportunity potential.
Location - Based in Burrumbuttock at Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre with travel throughout West Hume Landcare region.
Salary - Negotiable within the project budget.
Requirements - Australian drivers' licence. The Project Officer must be willing to use their own vehicle for travel, with remuneration at current tax rate/km.
Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated ability in successful project delivery to budget and timeline with well-developed written and oral communication skills
2. Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment and build partnerships with landholders, government agencies, non-government organisations and community groups.
3. Experience in using GIS application software and competence in the use of Microsoft Office suite, email and online systems
4. Relevant experience and/or qualifications in Natural Resource Management and/or Sustainable Agriculture and sound understanding of natural resource management issues
